Iconic vanity tray with handles; the round top is a mirror and has been skillfully ground with stone wheels from underneath depicting a courtship scene showing a courtly couple dressed in all their finery on the paved edge of a Venetian canal, in fact to the left of the man's leg appears the upper silhouette of a gondola the typical "Ferro di Prua" (it has an essential and very precise function: being very heavy it weighs down the prow of the boat thus keeping it always in trim with any number of rowers and aids conduction by always marking the direction in which the prow of the gondola is pointing) an image surrounded by elegant and lively decorations; the upper edge of the mirror is decorated with a glass rope twisted back on itself within which precious gold straws have been cast; the elegant and rich handles are of excellent gilded brass casting; under the bottom is a light wood top. This product, typical of the Venetian tradition, was handcrafted between 1950 and 1955 in a small workshop in Murano, using the ancient Murano working techniques handed down for generations; the artisans were inspired by models created by Barovier & Toso, a Murano glassmaking company in Venice whose activity began in the mid-12th century and is one of the oldest companies in the world that still produces pieces of extraordinary workmanship and beauty, and it is for this reason that it has always been an example and a reference model for all Murano production. Our tray represents a high expression of the craftsmanship and dexterity of the Master Glassmakers, a unique and refined work of art characterized by complex workmanship performed by hand that surely fascinates and amazes us. The tray is in good condition. Measures diameter(including handles) cm.32, height cm.4.
